Business Perspective

The activities of the Colleges in the Black Country assist existing businesses, encourage start-up and newly-formed companies and create long-term growth and prosperity.

We provide a wealth of training opportunities for the region's commerce and industry through programmes that improve the skills of those already in the workplace at every level, from the shop floor to the boardroom, as well as educating the workers of tomorrow.

Our training is open to all members of the community, from young people preparing to enter the world of work to experienced employees seeking to gain new qualifications.

In these changing times we also offer support to people looking or needing to re-skill, returning to employment after a break or taking the entrepreneurial route and starting their own business.

We provide both established training courses and bespoke programmes for companies looking for a solution tailored to their specific company needs.

The industrial and commercial sectors covered are wide-ranging but include IT, Retail, Customer Service, Business & Administration, Leisure & Hospitality, Leadership & Management, Construction and Health & Social Care, Sport and many others.  Contact your local College in the Black Country to find out how we can help.

Fourteen to 19-year-olds can now study for a Diploma, introduced in September 2009, the new vocational qualification which can be studied at Foundation, Higher and Advanced levels.  Diplomas have been designed by employers, colleges, schools and universities to better prepare students for work.

In partnership with employers, we are also major providers of Apprenticeships for those aged 16 and over wishing to study towards work-based qualifications.

Through an Apprenticeship, on-the-job training leads to nationally recognised qualifications developed by industry.  There are three levels - a first stage Apprenticeship (equivalent to five good GCSE passes), Advanced (equivalent to two A Level passes) and Higher (where learners work towards qualifications such NVQ Level 4 and a Foundation Degree).

Furthermore, help for employers is available under the Train to Gain initiative, the national skills service the Colleges in the Black Country are linked into.  Through the training we provide, we can help businesses of all types and sizes improve their performance, unlocking employees potential.

A broad range of training is covered - from basic level skills to Level 2, Level 3 and other higher-level skills such as Leadership and Management.

Our teams of qualified assessors, who assess learners in the workplace, have years of consultancy to call upon to help employers and employees achieve their goals.
